How to Assemble a WMG-PC13 Wire Mesh Grip Cord Connector
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling a WMG-PC13 wire mesh grip cord connector, ensuring proper strain relief and secure cable connection for your application.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Flat nose pliers
Supplies needed:
Cord or Cable, WMG-PC13 Wire Mesh Grip components
- Prepare the Connector Body
If a replacement gland nut is supplied with your WMG-PC13, remove both the original retaining ring and the gland nut from the connector body. Otherwise, only remove the original retaining ring from the connector.
- Prepare the Cord
Cut the end of your cord or cable squarely to ensure a clean and proper insertion into the connector.
- Slide Gland Nut and Mesh onto Cord
First, slide the compression gland nut onto the cord. Then, compress the wire mesh grip and carefully slide it onto the cord. If installing on a cord of maximum diameter, use flat nose pliers to slightly preform the wire mesh loops as shown in Figure 3 of the documentation to ease installation.
- Slide Bushing onto Cord
Next, slide the bushing onto the cord, positioning it behind the wire mesh grip.
- Mount Connector Body (if applicable)
For threaded hub applications, secure the connector body to the enclosure at this stage. If using for knockout applications, you can complete the full assembly before mounting the connector to the enclosure.
- Insert Cord into Body
Insert the prepared cord, with the gland nut, mesh, and bushing, through the connector body until the desired working length of the conductors is achieved. Note: You may need to strip back the cord jacket slightly to pass it through the body.
- Position Bushing and Mesh
Slide the bushing fully into the connector body. Then, slide the wire mesh along the cord until it lays flat and snugly against the bushing.
- Tighten Gland Nut
Slide the compression gland nut along the wire mesh and firmly tighten it onto the connector body. Ensure all slack is removed from the mesh by smoothing it out along the cord to provide proper strain relief.
