How to Install Star Teck™ Cable Fittings (ST050-462 to ST400-486 Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck™ cable fittings, including cable preparation and securing the fitting. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Wrench or Torque Wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck™ Cable Fitting, Armored Cable
- Select the appropriate cable fitting
Before beginning, select the correct Star Teck™ cable fitting from the ST050-462 to ST400-486 series that is suitable for both your enclosure and the armored cable being used. Consult the product table in the documentation for compatibility based on cable range over armor and jacket.
- Prepare the armored cable
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock. Determine the required working length of the conductor inside the enclosure. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to match the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Insert the cable into the fitting
Feed the prepared armored cable through the gland nut opening of the fitting. Push the cable firmly until its armor makes contact with the internal end stop of the fitting.
- Secure the cable fitting
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved around the cable's outer jacket. Refer to the product table for the maximum torque specification for your specific fitting. Ensure the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal and even seal.
