How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fittings

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings (Series ST050-462PVC to ST350-483PVC). Ensure power is disconnected before installation due to risk of shock. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches

Supplies needed:

Wire pulling lubricant (e.g., Cat. No. 15-236), Appropriate Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting

  1. Select the Appropriate Cable Fitting

Choose the correct Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting that accommodates both the enclosure and the specific cable being used. Refer to the assembly view and product table for compatibility.

  2. Prepare the Cable Armor and Jacket

Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor to the desired length, then trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length as indicated in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the original documentation).

  3. Cut the Cable Boot

Determine where to cut the cable boot using one of two methods. Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot directly in front of the cable end (Figure 3A). Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the cable armor (Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.

  4. Feed Cable Through Gland Nut

Feed the prepared cable through the opening of the gland nut. Push the cable until the cable armor makes contact with the internal end stop of the fitting (Figure 4).

  5. Tighten the Gland Nut for a Secure Seal

Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is achieved or the maximum torque specified in the product table is reached. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered within the fitting to obtain an optimal and secure seal (Figure 5).
