How to Install Star Teck PVC Cable Fittings

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck PVC cable fittings (ST050-462PVC to ST350-483PVC series), covering cable preparation, boot cutting, and final tightening to ensure a proper seal. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches, Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

Star Teck PVC Cable Fitting, Armored Cable, Wire pulling lubricant (optional)

  1. Select Appropriate Fitting

Choose the correct Star Teck PVC cable fitting that matches the enclosure and the specific armored cable being used. Refer to the product assembly and table for compatibility.

  2. Prepare the Armored Cable

Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor to the specified strip length as indicated in the product table. Trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length accordingly.

  3. Cut the Cable Boot

Prepare the cable boot for a snug fit. You can either unscrew the gland nut, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot in front of the cable (Method 1). Alternatively, strip the cable jacket off the armor and progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armor (Method 2). CAUTION: Do not over-strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.

  4. Insert Cable into Fitting

Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening of the fitting. Push the cable until the cable armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting.

  5. Tighten the Gland Nut

Using strap wrenches (for PVC coated fittings), tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque specified in the product table. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and the cable remains centered for an optimal seal.
