Tools needed:
Wire brush, Utility knife, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Sweetheart SHC 500 Connector, Electrical cable, Silicone grease
- Prepare the Rocket Sleeve
Remove the insulating sleeve from the connector outlet. Select the appropriate cut-off ring for your cable size. Cut off the rocket sleeve at the tip of the arrow, ensuring the correct cable size is visible on the opened rocket.
- Strip Cable Insulation
Strip approximately 2-1/4 inches of insulation from the cable end, exposing the conductor. Beveling the cut edge of the insulation is preferred but not mandatory.
- Clean the Conductor
Thoroughly wire brush the bare conductor to remove any oxides from its surface, ensuring a clean connection.
- Lubricate and Position Rocket
Wipe the prepared cable clean. Apply silicone grease to the conductor. Slide the pre-cut rocket sleeve over the prepared cable end.
- Insert Conductor
Carefully insert the prepared conductor into the connector outlet. Ensure that a maximum of 1/8 inch of bare conductor is visible after insertion.
- Seat the Rocket Sleeve
Slide the rocket sleeve completely over the connector outlet and onto the PVC shoulder. Continue sliding until the rocket firmly butts against the connector bar.
- Tighten Set Screws
Tighten the set screws onto the conductors using a torque wrench to the recommended specifications: #6 to #4 wire size: 120 in.-lbs. (10 ft.-lbs.); #2 to 350 MCM: 240 in.-lbs. (20 ft.-lbs.); 400 to 500 MCM: 360 in.-lbs. (30 ft.-lbs.).
