This guide provides step-by-step instructions for securely mounting the SBC-414 Solar Module Grounding Lug to an aluminum solar panel frame and connecting a copper grounding conductor.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
1/8" Allen Key or Hex Driver, Wire Strippers
Supplies needed:
SBC-414 Solar Module Grounding Lug, Copper Grounding Conductor (#14 to #4 AWG), Solar Panel with Aluminum Frame
- Ensure Electrical Safety and Prepare Tools
WARNING: Disconnect the electrical circuit supplying power to the outlet prior to installation to prevent risk of shock. Read all instructions and warnings carefully. Gather your 1/8" allen key or hex driver and wire strippers. Ensure the lug is securely installed in accordance with these instructions before mounting the aluminum frame.
- Mount the Grounding Lug onto the Solar Panel Frame
Slide the upper opening of the SBC-414 grounding lug onto the aluminum frame of the solar panel. Using a 1/8” allen key or hex driver, torque the 'Frame Mount Set Screw' (with the knurled tip) to 45 lb-in. Ensure the lug is securely fastened to the frame.
- Connect the Copper Grounding Conductor
Strip the insulation back at least 1/2” from the end of the copper conductor. Insert the stripped end of the conductor into the lower opening of the lug. Using a 1/8” allen key or hex driver, torque the 'Conductor Mount Set Screw' (with the standard/flat tip) according to the conductor size: 14 AWG (SOLID) 30 lb-in, 14 AWG (STRANDED) 35 lb-in, 12 AWG (SOLID) 35 lb-in, 12 AWG (STRANDED) 35 lb-in, 10 AWG (SOLID) 35 lb-in, 10 AWG (STRANDED) 35 lb-in, 8 AWG (SOLID) 40 lb-in, 8 AWG (STRANDED) 40 lb-in, 6 AWG (SOLID) 45 lb-in, 6 AWG (STRANDED) 45 lb-in, 4 AWG (SOLID) 45 lb-in, 4 AWG (STRANDED) 45 lb-in.
