How to Install UH1000 Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing UH1000 Connectors, including preparing the cable, applying grease, and securing the conductor. WARNING: Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, installation standards, and safety rules to prevent electric shock.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Wire brush, Cutting tool, Torque wrench or calibrated screwdriver

Supplies needed:

UH1000 Connector, Electrical cable, Silicone grease, Oxide inhibiting compound

  1. Prepare the Outlet

Remove the insulating sleeve from the outlet. Select the correct cut-off ring for the specific cable being used.

  2. Strip Cable Insulation

Strip approximately 3 inches of insulation from the cable end, exposing the conductor. Pencilling the insulation is preferred but not mandatory.

  3. Clean Conductor

Thoroughly wire brush the bare conductor with an oxide inhibiting compound to break up any oxides.

  4. Prepare Rocket Sleeve

Cut off the rocket sleeve at the tip of the arrow, ensuring the correct cable size is visible on the opened rocket. Refer to the markings for specific cable sizes (e.g., #2 to 2/0, 3/0 to 250, 300 to 500, 500 to 750, 750 to 1000, 1000).

  5. Apply Grease and Slide Rocket

Apply silicone grease to the prepared cable. Then, slide the cut rocket sleeve over the greased cable.

  6. Position Rocket Sleeve

Slide the rocket sleeve over the outlet and onto the PVC shoulder until it butts firmly against the connector bar.

  7. Insert and Secure Conductor

Insert the prepared conductor into the outlet barrel. Tighten the set screws down on the conductor, starting with the outermost screw. Apply the specified torque: #14 to #3 (120 in-lbs), #2 to 350 MCM (240 in-lbs), 400 MCM to 750 MCM (360 in-lbs), 800 MCM to 1000 MCM (500 in-lbs).
