Overview

The ABB K655LRTP-P0410-DRG Stick-Op Connector Kit is a high-performance 600 Amp, 25kV loadbreak connector designed for safe and reliable electrical connections in medium-voltage power distribution systems. This kit includes an aluminum compression lug, an insulated cap, and a reducing tap plug, enabling direct testing and grounding without cable movement. The connector meets ANSI/IEEE Standard 386 and is rated for 15.2kV phase-to-ground and 26.3kV phase-to-phase operating voltages, with a 125kV BIL impulse withstand rating. It supports compressed stranded conductors sized at 1000 AWG or kcmil, with cable insulation diameters ranging from 1.725 inches to 1.935 inches. The kit features a peroxide-cured EPDM molded rubber construction for durability and corrosion resistance, ensuring long-term performance in demanding environments. The all-copper current path minimizes electrical resistance, while the hex-broach design simplifies torque installation. This connector is ideal for utility and industrial applications requiring high current and voltage ratings, such as power transmission, substations, and renewable energy systems. The Stick-Op design allows for external visible breaks via hotstick removal, enhancing safety and reducing space requirements in deadfront constructions. The kit includes a cable adapter, silicone lubricant, installation instructions, and a crimp chart for proper assembly.

How to Install the ELASTIMOLD 273/375DRG(3) Insulated Cap with Ground Lead

This guide provides instructions for safely installing the ELASTIMOLD 273/375DRG(3) insulated cap, designed for insulating, shielding, and watersealing loadbreak bushing interfaces. Ensure all apparatus is de-energized during installation to prevent serious or fatal injury.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hotstick (minimum 8 ft insulated), High voltage safety equipment

Supplies needed:

ELASTIMOLD 273/375DRG(3) Insulated Cap with Ground Lead, Supplied lubricant, Compatible loadbreak bushing

  1. Connect Grounding Wire

Connect the free end of the electrostatic grounding wire, supplied with the insulated cap, to the system ground. Ensure enough slack is left for hot-stick operation and train the wire so it does not contact the bushing interface during operation. WARNING: If the ground lead disconnects during operation, do not attempt to reattach without first pulling the insulated cap off the bushing with a hotstick.

  2. Prepare Insulated Cap

Remove the protective cover from the insulated cap. Lubricate the cap’s internal mating surface using only the supplied lubricant or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricants. Do not substitute other lubricants as they may be harmful to this product and its mating products. Keep the internal mating surface free from dirt and grime. Always replace the protective cover when the cap is not in use.

  3. Install Insulated Cap onto Bushing

Firmly attach a hotstick (minimum 8 ft recommended) to the insulated cap pulling eye. Insert the male contact of the insulated cap into the loadbreak bushing, and push it home with a fast, firm, straight motion. Verify that the cap is fully mated and the locking ring is seated. Detach the hotstick from the insulated cap.
