How to Install K1501 Series Deadbreak Junctions
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation and mounting of ELASTIMOLD K1501J2U-8, K1501J3U-8, and K1501J4U-8 deadbreak junctions on flat surfaces.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Wrench or Socket Set, Drill, Wire Strippers, Measuring Tape, Marking Tool
Supplies needed:
Suitable Fasteners (user-supplied), Ground Wire (user-supplied, sized appropriately), Hold-down Bails (supplied with elbow), Lubricant (included with junction), K1501 Series Deadbreak Junction (K1501J2U-8, K1501J3U-8, or K1501J4U-8), Universal Mounting Brackets (included with junction)
- De-energize Apparatus and Verify Safety
DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of any part(s). Verify that all apparatus is de-energized before beginning the installation. Ensure all individual user, local, and national work rules are followed. Do not touch or move energized products.
- Prepare for Mounting
Determine the desired mounting angle (adjustable from 0° through 45° above or below the horizontal in 15° increments) and the desired direction of the slotted bracket. Loosely attach the pre-assembled universal mounting brackets to the junction back plate. Place the junction assembly against the wall in the desired location and mark the slot locations on the wall for drilling.
- Mount Brackets to Wall
Remove the slotted mounting brackets from the junction assembly. Attach the brackets securely to the wall using suitable fasteners (supplied by the user) at the marked locations. CAUTION: One or both of the mounting brackets can be reversed to change the distance required between bolt centers.
- Assemble Junction to Brackets
Re-assemble the deadbreak junction to the slotted mounting brackets. Tighten all bolts securely to ensure no movement during operation. Verify that the parking stands are in an upright position.
- Connect System Ground
Attach a suitable wire to the ground lug on the junction. Connect this wire to the system ground. Ensure the ground wire is sized to carry the rated fault current or the system fault current if less than the product rating.
- Attach Hold-Down Bails
Attach the hold-down bails (supplied with the elbow connector) to the junction. All 200A deadbreak connectors must be mechanically secured with bails when connected.
