How to Install an Elastimold Deadbreak Junction (Universal Mount)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Elastimold deadbreak junctions using the universal mount method. Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before beginning installation. This product must be installed only by competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment safety practices.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Wrench/Socket set (for 3/8" and 1/2" hex nuts/screws), Marking tool, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Suitable fasteners (for attaching universal brackets to mounting surface), Grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), Elastimold approved lubricant, HV insulated caps or connectors (for unused bushings)

  1. Determine Mounting Location

DANGER: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before proceeding. Determine the desired location for the junction assembly. Use the base plate, included with the junction, as a template. Place it on the mounting surface and mark all slot locations for drilling or fastener placement.

  2. Attach First Universal Brackets

Secure two (2) universal brackets to the flat mounting surface using suitable fasteners (user-supplied). Tighten them securely to prevent any movement during operation.

  3. Attach Remaining Universal Brackets

Connect the remaining two (2) universal brackets to the two brackets already mounted on the surface at the desired angle, using the supplied hardware (3/8” hex head cap screw, external tooth lock washer, 3/8” hex nut). Tighten securely.

  4. Assemble Junction to Base Bracket and Plate

Assemble the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate. Use two (2) 1/2” hex head cap screws, two (2) 1/2” split lock washers, and two (2) 1/2” hex nuts, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Tighten all components securely.

  5. Mount Junction Assembly to Universal Brackets

Attach the complete deadbreak junction assembly to the universal brackets using the supplied hardware (1/2” hex head cap screw, 1/2” split lock washer, 1/2” hex nut). Ensure the parking stand is in the upright position and tighten all fasteners securely.

  6. Ground the Assembly

The base bracket assembly and the junction’s black conductive jacket must be grounded. Connect a suitable grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded, user-supplied) to the grounding lug provided on the base bracket. Ensure a secure, low-resistance connection.

  7. Prepare Operating Interfaces

Before energization, remove all protective shipping caps and thoroughly clean the operating interfaces. Lubricate each interface with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant (user-supplied). If any operating interfaces remain unused, install appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors (user-supplied) on them.
