How to Install and Operate the HMC5630-LI Battery Charger
Guide for setting up and using the HMC5630-LI battery charger to charge compatible battery packs.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Qualified electrician (if outlet needs modification)
Supplies needed:
HMC5630-LI Battery Charger, AC Power Cord, Thomas & Betts 144-BAT-LI battery pack
- Prepare the Power Outlet
Ensure you have a properly grounded three-prong outlet. If only a two-prong outlet is available, use a temporary adapter with a grounding pin, but have a qualified electrician install a proper outlet as soon as possible. WARNING: Ensure the outlet box is grounded before using an adapter. If unsure, have it checked by a qualified electrician.
- Connect the Power Cord
Connect the AC power cord to the HMC5630-LI battery charger and plug it into the prepared AC outlet. The indicator lamp should blink red, indicating stand-by mode. WARNING: Never alter an AC cord or its plug. An improper connection can cause electric shock. The charger must be grounded.
- Prepare the Battery
Ensure the battery pack is at room temperature (68°F -77°F or 20°C - 25°C). CAUTION: Do not charge a battery that has been stored below 32°F (0°C). Allow it to warm up to room temperature before charging.
- Insert the Battery
Insert the Thomas & Betts 144-BAT-LI battery pack into the HMC5630-LI charger. The charging system will begin, and the indicator lamp should turn solid green.
- Monitor Charging Status
Observe the indicator lamp for charging status: SOLID GREEN (charging), RAPID BLINKING GREEN (80% complete), SOLID ORANGE (100% complete). If the lamp lights red, the battery temperature is too high or low; remove and allow it to reach room temperature. If the lamp blinks red rapidly, the battery is defective and must be replaced.
- Verify Completion
Once the indicator lamp turns solid orange, the battery is fully charged. A charged battery can be stored in the charger indefinitely.
