Supplies needed:
Electrical cable, Heat shrink sleeve, Electrical lug, Joint compound (if applicable), FLOOD SEAL connector bus, Mounting hardware for lug
- Observe Safety Precautions
WARNING: Danger of Electric Shock! Installation of this product must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable local, state and national electrical codes, installation standards and safety rules.
- Prepare Cable Conductor
Remove the appropriate length of cable insulation and thoroughly wire brush the conductor to ensure a clean connection surface.
- Position Heat Shrink Sleeve
Slip the heat shrink sleeve over the cable end, ensuring it is positioned away from the connection area for now.
- Connect Lug to Conductor and Bus
Crimp the lug securely onto the prepared conductor end. If using joint compound, wipe away any excess. Then, bolt the crimped lug to the contact pad on the FLOOD SEAL connector bus.
- Position Sleeve for Sealing
Slide the heat shrink sleeve over the crimped lug until it firmly butts against the FLOOD SEAL connector bus.
- Shrink Sleeve at Bus Connection
Using a suitable heat source (butane torch, propane torch, or 500°F electric heat gun), apply heat evenly to the sleeve at the bus end. Move the heat source to a new position as visual shrinkage occurs. Continue shrinking until a bead of mastic appears at the sleeve end, indicating a complete seal.
- Shrink Sleeve Over Terminal Lug
Working away from the connector bus, continue to apply heat evenly to shrink the sleeve over the terminal lug.
- Shrink Sleeve Over Cable End
Finally, shrink the sleeve over the cable end, applying heat evenly until a bead of mastic appears, signifying a complete seal.
