This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing BAC4038 battery connectors safely and effectively.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Crimping tool, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
BAC4038 connectors, Heat shrink insulation tubing, KOPR-SHIELD compound, Mounting screws
- Disconnect battery cables
Before starting the installation, disconnect the battery cables from the battery posts. Note the locations of the positive and negative terminals to ensure correct installation.
- Prepare the battery cables
Carefully strip the insulation from the battery cables without nicking the strands. Ensure the conductor strands are clean and free of dirt.
- Select and prepare connectors
Choose the appropriate BAC4038 connector based on the gauge of the battery cable. If using heat shrink tubing, slide it onto the cable now. If using KOPR-SHIELD compound, apply it to the bare conductors.
- Crimp the connectors
Insert the stripped end of the cable into the connector until it bottoms out. Position the connector in the crimping tool and compress it between the colored lines, starting nearest to the connector tongue.
- Apply heat shrink insulation
If heat shrink insulators are used, position them over the connector barrel, overlapping the wire insulation by at least 1.5 inches. Apply heat according to the instructions until the insulation shrinks.
- Install the connectors
Connect the positive lead to the positive battery terminal and the negative lead to the negative battery terminal. Use a torque of 10 to 15 ft-lbs to secure the connections.
