How to Install ASP AL9CU Compression Splices
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing ASP AL9CU aluminum compression splices on stranded, compressed, compact aluminum and copper cables. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Tools needed:
Wire brush (e.g., ABB catalog number WWB1), Crimping tool, Crimping dies (refer to Tool and Die Index)
Supplies needed:
ASP AL9CU aluminum compression splice, Aluminum or copper cable
- Verify Wire and Splice Size
Check the wire size marked on the aluminum splice to ensure it is the correct connector for the actual cable size to be used.
- Strip Cable Insulation
Strip the cable insulation, taking care not to nick the cable strands. Refer to the tool's instructions for proper strip length.
- Wire Brush Cable
Wire brush the cable side that will be inserted into the connector using a suitable wire brush (e.g., ABB catalog number WWB1).
- Insert Cable into Connector
Fully insert the prepared cable into the compression splice connector. WARNING: Do not remove oxide inhibitor from the splice barrel; insufficient compound can result in an unsafe connection. This compound contains petroleum distillates and small metal particles. Avoid prolonged skin contact (Wash with soap and water). Consult a physician if swallowed or contact with eyes.
- Crimp the Connector
Refer to the Tool and Die Index to select the appropriate tool/die combination for your cable size. Crimp the connector the specified number of times shown on the chart. For splices, make the first crimp just outside the knurl on each side of the center and space crimps uniformly along the splice. For lugs, make the first crimp at the inner end of the barrel and space crimps uniformly along the barrel.
- Clean Excess Inhibitor
Wipe off any excess oxide inhibitor from the completed connection.
