How to Install the AMC-2501 Metal Clad Cable Gland

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and correct installation of the AMC-2501 Metal Clad Cable Gland, including cable preparation, mounting, and proper sealing to ensure optimal performance.

Estimated time: 20m

Tools needed:

Wrench, Torque Wrench, Cable Strippers

Supplies needed:

AMC-2501 Metal Clad Cable Gland, Metal Clad Cable, Locknut (if required)

  1. Prepare the Cable

WARNING: RISK OF SHOCK, DISCONNECT POWER BEFORE INSTALLATION. Ensure power is disconnected to prevent risk of shock. Select the correct AMC cable gland for your enclosure and cable type. For the AMC-2501 (2 NPT) model, the recommended strip length 'L' for the armor is 63.50 mm (2.500 in). Determine the required working length of the cable inside the enclosure, then prepare the cable by exposing this appropriate length of armor.

  2. Mount the Cable Gland to the Enclosure

Install the cable gland into the enclosure. This can be done by screwing it into a threaded hole or by using a locknut for non-threaded holes. If using a locknut, hand-tighten it first, then tighten it an additional 1/4 turn using an appropriate wrench.

  3. Feed Cable Through the Gland

If the conductor bundle is too large, the armor stop may need to be removed prior to this step. Carefully feed the prepared metal clad cable through the cable gland. Push the cable until its armor firmly contacts the armor stop or the body of the gland.

  4. Secure and Seal the Cable

Tighten the gland nut to the specified torque. For the AMC-2501, the approximate torque is 55.88 N-m (2.200 lbf-in). Ensure the sealing ring seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered as much as possible to obtain an optimal, watertight seal.
