Overview

The ABB AFM 4 BGE is a three-compartment raised access floor module designed for organized underfloor cable and utility management in commercial and industrial environments. Constructed from 14-gauge galvanized steel, the module resists corrosion in humid or chemically active spaces, ensuring long-term durability. The beige powder-coated cover blends seamlessly with standard flooring materials, minimizing visual disruption in offices, data centers, and manufacturing facilities. Key specifications include a 4-inch depth, a 150 cubic inch total volume, and a 7-15/16" x 7-15/16" floor cutout compatible with standard raised floor systems. The cover measures 7-5/8" x 7-5/8" with a 39 sq. in. access area. The module accommodates up to three device panels, with compartment volumes of 27.3 cu in (45° power), 25.2 cu in (60° power), and 20.6 cu in (center data). A base opening of 2" x 2-7/8" allows for cable entry. The AFM 4 BGE includes a power panel (AFP-4A) and closure panel (AFC-C) for immediate installation. Prewiring options are available for streamlined setup, and replacement covers (665 Series) ensure long-term flexibility. The low-profile design reduces tripping hazards while maintaining structural integrity in high-traffic areas. Ideal for data centers, offices, and manufacturing floors, this module supports electrical, data, and mechanical infrastructure with organized underfloor access.

How to Install the AFM 4 Access Floor Module

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the AFM 4 Access Floor Module, including mounting, wiring, and initial setup.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Caulk or sealant

  1. Cut the hole for the AFM

Cut a hole in the raised floor panel according to the dimensions of the AFM 4, which is 7-15/16" x 7-15/16".

  2. Install the AFH Bracket

Place the AFH Bracket in the center of the cutout opening and fold the legs around the edge to secure it tightly against the floor panel.

  3. Seal the Carpet Flange

Before lowering the AFM into the hole, apply caulk or sealant to the underside of the Carpet Flange to prevent water entry.

  4. Lower the AFM into the hole

Carefully lower the AFM into the cut hole and attach conduit as required to meet wiring needs and comply with National Electrical Code.

  5. Secure the AFM

Install 1-1/8" long screws to engage the bracket and secure the AFM in place.

  6. Condition the gaskets

Apply a light coating of petroleum jelly to the gaskets on the Cord Door and Carpet Flange to keep them supple and prevent water entry.

  7. Connect wiring and devices

Open the cover of the AFM, attach the required devices, and install all wiring in accordance with National Electrical Code and local codes.

  8. Close the AFM cover

Ensure all cords are routed out through the opened Cord Door, then close the lid securely.
