How to Install Blackburn Aluminum Dual Rated Connectors
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing Blackburn Aluminum Dual Rated Connectors with aluminum or copper conductors, including preparation, insertion, and torquing procedures.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Wire brush, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Oxide inhibiting compound, Mounting hardware (bolts, flat and Belleville washers)
- De-energize and Verify Conductor Size
Before beginning, ensure the circuit is de-energized to prevent electrical shock. Check the conductor size marked on the connector to confirm it is the correct connector for the conductor size you are using.
- Prepare and Insert Conductor
Carefully strip the conductor insulation, using the length of the connector's conductor barrel to measure the appropriate strip length, and avoid damaging the conductor strands. Wire brush the conductor. If using an aluminum conductor, apply Blackburn® Contax® Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound, then fully insert the prepared conductor into the connector. Wipe off any excess oxide inhibitor.
- Tighten Connector Setscrew
Apply the recommended tightening torque to the connector's setscrew. Refer to TABLE 1 in the product documentation for the appropriate torque value based on the maximum conductor size the connector accommodates.
- Apply Oxide Inhibitor and Mount Connector
Prior to mounting, apply Blackburn® Contax® Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound to the flat contact surface of the connector. Mount the connector using appropriate hardware. Torque the mounting hardware to the values specified in TABLE 2. For best installation practice, use flat and Belleville washers in conjunction with the mounting hardware.
