Overview

The ABB Installation Products 775BE is a 35kV, 900A deadbreak bushing extender with integrated stud, designed for medium-voltage electrical systems requiring reliable, insulated connections. This deadbreak connector enables installation and maintenance without de-energizing circuits, reducing downtime and improving operational safety. The 900A continuous current rating supports high-load applications, while the 35kV voltage rating aligns with medium-voltage distribution networks. The bushing extender increases clearance between apparatus surfaces and cable entry points, providing flexibility in tight or complex installations where standard connectors may not fit. The fully shielded, submersible molded rubber housing resists moisture and contaminants, extending service life in outdoor or harsh environments. The integrated threaded stud simplifies attachment to cables or components, streamlining assembly. Compatible with Elastimold products including 775CP, 775BIP, 775J2/3/4, 775ETP, and 775S1, the 775BE meets ANSI/IEEE Standard 386 with ratings including 21.1kV phase-to-ground operating voltage, 36.6kV phase-to-phase, 150kV BIL impulse withstand, and 25kA symmetrical momentary rating. How to Install the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and initial setup of the LINK-C 600 amp deadbreak connector system, enabling a fully shielded, submersible hot stick operable connection between a cable and apparatus, including a 200 ampere tap. DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

Wrench (for 1 inch hex portion), Torque wrench, Hot stick, Wire strippers, Welding equipment (if using welded studs), Suitable tool for 600ATM (e.g., socket wrench)

Supplies needed:

600 amp elbow, Stand-off plug, Hex nuts (3/8-16), Lockwashers, ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant, 600 amp bushing extender, Retainer contact, Alignment bracket, Bushing extender clamp, Elbow clamp, Hardware (for clamps, e.g., hex bolts, lock washers), LINK-C connector, #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire, Appropriate connectors (for grounding wire), Mating 200 amp product (e.g., insulated cap, loadbreak elbow, surge arrester)

  1. Install the 600 Amp Elbow

Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable according to the installation instructions supplied with the elbow. Ensure the elbow is positioned to align with the stand-off plug.

  2. Install the Mounted Stand-Off Plug (If Applicable)

Weld three 3/8-16 x 2” studs to the faceplate according to customer standard practice and specified dimensions. Install three hex nuts onto the studs to support the stand-off plug, ensuring it aligns with the apparatus bushing. Place the stand-off plug over the studs, resting on the nuts or spacers. Secure the stand-off plug by installing a lockwasher and hex nut on each stud, then tighten to 12 foot-lbs torque. Verify that the top surfaces of the bushing and stand-off plug are in-line; readjust nuts as needed.

  3. Install Bushing Extender and Elbow

Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the 600ATM into the retainer contact, engage the internal hex broach, and thread the retainer contact into the apparatus bushing using a suitable tool on the 1” hex portion of the 600ATM. Torque to 50-60 ft-lbs. Next, clean and lubricate the epoxy standoff plug and both interfaces of the 600 amp elbow. Install the elbow onto the epoxy standoff plug. Insert the 600AMT into the retainer contact through the compression lug hole and thread into the epoxy standoff plug, torquing to 50-60 ft-lbs.

  4. Install Alignment Bracket

Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush and tight. Position the elbow in the alignment bracket so the elbow cuff aligns evenly with the bushing extender cuff. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket with supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance of the elbow.

  5. Install the LINK-C Connector

Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the LINK-C connector with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Align the LINK-C connector to be perpendicular to the switch faceplate when inserted into the bushing extender and elbow. Insert the LINK-C connector into the bushing extender and elbow, ensuring both lever arms are on the inside of the alignment bracket legs. Engage the pivot pin into the slots in the alignment bracket legs. While pushing inward, move the lever arms downward using a hot stick eye to engage the roller pin and move the LINK-C connector inward. Continue moving lever arms until they are perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.

  6. Ground the System and Install Mating Product

Ground the elbow by feeding a #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire through the grounding eye, twisting it tight, and connecting it to ground. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the LINK-C connector. Ground the cable by twisting concentric neutral wires together and connecting to ground with an appropriate connector, or by connecting the ground lead from 20MA or 21MA grounding devices to ground. For three-phase installations, tie all grounds from all three phases to a common ground point. Finally, install the desired mating 200 amp product onto the 200 amp interface according to its specific installation instructions.
