How to Install the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of the LINK-C 600 amp deadbreak cam link operable connector system, including mounting, wiring, and connection procedures for high voltage electrical equipment.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Torque wrench, Socket wrench (for 1 inch hex), Hot stick, Welding equipment (if applicable), Wire strippers, 600ATM Operating Tool
Supplies needed:
600 amp elbow, Stand-off plug, Bushing extender, ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant, Hex nuts (3/8-16), Lockwashers, Studs (3/8-16 x 2 inches), Alignment bracket, Bushing extender clamp, Elbow clamp, Hardware for clamps, #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire, Grounding connectors, LINK connector
- De-energize and Prepare Components
Before beginning installation, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. Verify all components are complete, undamaged, and compatible with the cable and mating products. Have all required tools ready and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure. Failure to follow safety instructions will result in damage or serious injury.
- Install 600 Amp Elbow
Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable following its specific installation instructions. Ensure the elbow is positioned to align correctly with the stand-off plug.
- Determine Mounting Configuration
Identify the mounting type for your installation: either an alignment bracket with a bolted stand-off plug or an alignment bracket only. This determination will guide the subsequent installation steps.
- Install Mounted Stand-Off Plug (If Applicable)
If using a mounted stand-off plug, weld three 3/8-16 x 2” studs to the faceplate per customer standards. Install three hex nuts onto the studs to support the stand-off plug, ensuring alignment with the bushing. Place the stand-off plug over the studs. Secure it with lockwashers and hex nuts, tightening to 12 ft-lbs torque. Verify the top surfaces of the bushing and stand-off plug are in-line.
- Connect Bushing Extender to Apparatus
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender with ELASTIMOLD lubricant. Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the 600ATM into the retainer contact, engage the internal hex, and thread the retainer contact into the bushing extender and apparatus bushing using a suitable tool on the 1” hex, torquing to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Connect Elbow to Epoxy Standoff Plug
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the epoxy standoff plug and both interfaces of the 600 amp elbow with ELASTIMOLD lubricant. Install the elbow onto the epoxy standoff plug. Insert the 600AMT into the retainer contact, engage the internal hex, and thread the retainer contact into the 600 amp elbow through the compression lug hole. Use a suitable tool on the 1” hex portion of the 600AMT, torquing to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Mount Alignment Bracket
Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket with supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight.
- Secure Elbow in Alignment Bracket
Position the elbow in the alignment bracket so its cuff aligns evenly with the bushing extender cuff. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket with supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance of the elbow.
- Insert and Secure LINK Connector
Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the Link with ELASTIMOLD lubricant. Align the Link to be perpendicular to the switch faceplate when inserted. Insert the Link into the bushing extender and elbow, ensuring both lever arms are inside the alignment bracket legs. Engage the pivot pin into the alignment bracket leg slots. Use a hot stick to move the lever arms downward, engaging the roller pin and moving the Link inward until the lever arms are perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.
- Grounding and Mating Product Connection
Ground the elbow by feeding #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire through its grounding eye, twisting it tight, and connecting to ground. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the Link. Ground and install the desired mating product on the 200 amp interface per its instructions. For concentric neutral cable, twist neutrals and connect to ground. For 20MA/21MA devices, connect their ground lead to ground. For three-phase, tie all grounds to a common point.
- Refer to Operating Instructions
For proper operation of the Link and any connected 200 ampere mating products, always refer to their applicable operating instructions.
