This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a Bi-Pin connector to transition from aluminum to copper cable safely and effectively.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter, Crimping tool
Supplies needed:
Bi-Pin connectors, Aluminum cable, Copper pigtail, Insulator, Mounting screws
- Prepare the aluminum cable
Strip the aluminum cable to the length specified in the tool die selection table. Clean the cable with a wire brush or emery cloth to ensure a good connection.
- Insert the aluminum cable into the Bi-Pin connector
Insert the stripped aluminum cable fully into the connector barrel. Ensure that the cable is seated properly and that the insulation is inside the connector.
- Crimp the connector
Choose the appropriate color-coded installing dies as specified in the tool die selection table. Complete the required crimp(s) between the markings on the connector body.
- Install the insulator
Slip the wide opening of the insulator over the copper wire end and pull the insulator over the connector body and aluminum cable insulation, ensuring it is fully supported.
- Connect the copper pigtail
Insert the copper pigtail fully into the mechanical connector body and tighten the set screw to the manufacturer's recommended torque value.
- Verify the installation
Use a multimeter to check the continuity and ensure that the connection is secure. Confirm that the crimp die number embossed on the connector matches the number on the crimp dies used.
