How to Install the Copper High Voltage Two Way Splices

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing copper high voltage two way splices safely and effectively.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Crimping tool, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Copper connectors, Cable ties, Hose clamps

  1. Prepare the cable

Train the cable into its final position, mark the splice center line, and cut excess cable from each end.

  2. Strip the cable

Remove the cable jacket, shield, and insulation from the conductors for a distance of 1/2 connector length plus a minimum of 1/2 inch.

  3. Insert the conductor

Fully insert the conductor into the connector ensuring it reaches the end.

  4. Crimp the connector

Make the first crimp at one end of the connector next to the taper, then make a second crimp at the other end next to the taper.

  5. Perform overlapping crimping

Crimp in overlapping steps starting from the 'start overlap' line towards the connector ends, ensuring no ridges are left.

  6. Ensure proper crimp shape

Repeat the crimping process with the tool rotated 90 degrees to ensure the connector is round and to avoid flash and ridges.

  7. Secure the connection

If necessary, secure the bare conductor next to the connector with a hose clamp or cable tie to prevent basketing or birdcaging.

  8. Test the connection

Use a multimeter to verify the integrity of the connection before re-energizing the system.
