How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors
This guide provides the proper method for installing T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability. It covers preparing the conduit, assembling connector components, and securing the connection to an electrical box.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wrench, Safety gloves, Safety glasses
Supplies needed:
Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, Locknuts (if not included), Sealing gaskets (for knockout applications, if not included), PVC cement (optional)
- Prepare for Installation and Cut Flexible Conduit
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to avoid risk of shock. CAUTION: This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear hand protection and eye protection during this process. Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 teeth/inch) or a power band saw (24-32 teeth/inch, not more than 400 ft/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble the Liquidtight Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit. For PVC coated connectors, tighten the components using a smooth jaw wrench to prevent gouging. If gouging occurs and exposes metal, PVC cement is recommended.
- Secure the Connector to the Electrical Box and Conduit
Insert the connector body into the knockout opening of the electrical box. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately if not included). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. Secure the connector by tightening the locknut to the box wall. Finally, tighten the gland nut onto the connector body to the specified torque from the table (e.g., 200 lb-in for 3/8", 300 lb-in for 1/2", 500 lb-in for 3/4", 700 lb-in for 1", 1000 lb-in for 1 1/4", 1200 lb-in for 1 1/2", 1600 lb-in for 2" to 4").
