How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Metal jig (optional), Power band saw (optional), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

T&B Liquidtight connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC cement (for PVC coated connectors if gouging occurs)

  1. Prioritize Safety and Disconnect Power

Before beginning installation, read and understand all instructions and safety information. Disconnect power to prevent risk of electrical shock. Wear appropriate hand and eye protection.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig or a sharp hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set) for best results. For high production, use a power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set, not more than 400'/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel.

  3. Assemble the Liquidtight Connector

For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench to prevent gouging; if metal is exposed, PVC cement is recommended.

  4. Install Connector into Knockout Box

Insert the connector body into the knockout box. For knockout applications, use T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). Ensure the 'O' ring (if applicable, e.g., 5371 series) is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. Secure the connector by tightening the locknut to the body.

  5. Apply Correct Tightening Torque

    Tighten the locknut to the body according to the specified torque values. For a 3/8" fitting, apply 200 lb.-in. torque; 1/2" fitting, 300 lb.-in.; 3/4" fitting, 500 lb.-in.; 1" fitting, 700 lb.-in.; 1 1/4" fitting, 1000 lb.-in.; 1 1/2" fitting, 1200 lb.-in.; and 2" to 4" fittings, 1600 lb.-in.

  6. For Chase® Connector Assemblies (Optional)

If installing a 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assembly, lock-up can be achieved by either tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.
