What is the purpose of the 10EP's threaded hole?
The 10EP has a threaded hole to simulate the conductor contact, allowing the elbow's male contact to be installed.
How does the 10EP function as a dead-end receptacle?
The 10EP enables an elbow connector to function as a dead-end receptacle for any mating bushing interface. This eliminates the need for a normal dead-end receptacle.
How to Install the 10EP Elbow Cable Entrance Insulating Plug
This guide provides instructions for installing the 10EP Elbow Cable Entrance Insulating Plug onto an Elastimold 200amp Deadbreak or Loadbreak elbow. The installed plug acts as an insulated cap for terminating an exposed interface and includes a test point for verifying circuit status.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Pliers, Wrench
Supplies needed:
10EP Elbow Cable Entrance Insulating Plug, Lubricant (supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved), Male contact, Protective cap (for male contact), No. 14 AWG (2.5mm2) copper wire
- Prepare for Installation and Ensure Safety
Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before beginning installation. Inspect all parts for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating components. Verify that all package contents are complete and undamaged, and that all components fit properly with the cable and/or mating products. Have all required tools ready and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure.
- Lubricate the Insulating Plug
Lightly lubricate the surface of the insulating plug with the supplied lubricant or an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Apply lubricant for approximately 4-1/2 inches from the second chamfered step. Do not substitute lubricants, as other types may be harmful to this product or its mating parts.
- Insert the Insulating Plug into the Elbow
Position the insulating plug so its flat contact area faces the receptacle end of the elbow connector. Slide the 10EP into the elbow connector until it cannot advance any further. Look into the receptacle end of the elbow to confirm that the threaded hole in the 10EP is properly aligned to accept the male contact. If misalignment occurs, use pliers on the exposed end of the 10EP to rotate it into the correct position.
- Install the Male Contact
Remove the protective cap from the threads of the male contact. Insert the threaded end of the male contact into the threaded hole of the insulating plug, which is located in the receptacle end of the elbow. Hand tighten this contact. Snug tighten only to avoid stripping threads; do not overtighten, and avoid bending the wrench as indicated in the elbow connector instructions.
- Complete Assembly and Ground the Elbow
Lightly lubricate both the bushing and elbow connector mating surfaces. Complete the final assembly as specified in the instructions for the elbow. Ground the elbow by connecting a piece of wire equivalent to No. 14 AWG (2.5mm2) copper from the apparatus ground to the elbow grounding eye.
