3/8 Inch 45 Degree Steel Insulated Liquidtight Connector With PG Thread and Chromate Finish, Thread Size 11How to Install the 040-5371 Liquidtight Connector
Instructions for installing T&B® liquidtight connectors for flexible metallic conduit.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw or power band saw, Wrench, Hand protection, Eye protection
Supplies needed:
T&B® liquidtight connector, Locknut (if not pre-assembled), Sealing gasket (for knockout applications), PVC cement (if applicable)
- Prepare the Conduit End
Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig and a sharp hacksaw (32 teeth/inch) or a power band saw (not exceeding 400 ft/minute) with a 24-32 teeth/inch wavy set blade. Do not use an abrasive wheel.
- Assemble the Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors: Slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench for tightening. If metal is exposed, apply PVC cement.
- Install for Knockout Applications
If using for knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets, which must be purchased separately. For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately.
- Secure the Connector to the Box
Insert the connector body into the knockout or mounting location on the box. For Chase® connectors, ensure the Chase® Nipple is correctly positioned inside the knockout. Lock the connector by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple. Ensure the 'O' ring is properly seated.
- Tighten the Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut to the specified torque based on the trade size of the fitting. Refer to the torque table in the documentation for exact values (e.g., 200 lb.-in. for 3/8" fittings, 300 lb.-in. for 1/2" fittings).
- Verify Installation
Ensure all components are securely fastened and the connection is watertight. Disconnect power before installation and follow all national and local electrical codes. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician.
