Overview

The nVent SW2MGLWH Wall-Mount Solar Shield (SKU: SW2MGLWH) is a Type 4 and 12 rated enclosure accessory designed to protect outdoor electrical and electronic installations from solar radiation and harsh weather. Constructed from 14-gauge galvanized steel, this shield provides comprehensive protection from the top, sides, and rear, shielding enclosures from direct sunlight, rain, and snow. Its #60 White powder paint finish, applied both internally and externally, maximizes solar heat reflectivity, reducing internal enclosure temperatures by approximately 56% compared to unshielded enclosures. This thermal management solution is ideal for applications where ambient temperatures can cause overheating, equipment failure, or costly downtime. The SW2MGLWH features two sets of fully-adjustable mounting channels, allowing secure installation of various wall-mount enclosures and junction boxes up to 16.00 x 16.00 x 10.00 inches (406 x 406 x 254 mm). Compatible with nVent CONCEPT, INLINE, and NEMA Type 4 enclosures (e.g., Bulletins A51NF and A51FL), it includes all necessary mounting hardware and step-by-step instructions. Certified to UL 508A, cUL (CSA C22.2 No. 94), NEMA/EEMAC Type 4/12, and IEC 60529 IP66 standards, the SW2MGLWH ensures reliable performance in demanding outdoor environments.
  • Adjustable mounting allows various wall-mount enclosures to fit inside the solar shield
  • Refer to the table to determine which solar shield fits your enclosure size
  • Shields are finished with paint over plated surfaces
  • Hardware is included for mounting the solar shield to an enclosure

How to Install the SW2MGLWH Enclosure

Installation guide for mounting and wiring the SW2MGLWH enclosure. Refer to the nameplate or datasheet for specific model ratings, dimensions, and electrical values.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Drill, Level, Measuring tape, Wire strippers, Wire crimpers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting hardware (screws, bolts, anchors), Wire connectors, Grounding lug, Sealing fittings (if applicable)

  1. Select Mounting Location

Choose a suitable location for the enclosure. Ensure the location is accessible, provides adequate space for wiring and maintenance, and is protected from environmental hazards. Verify that the mounting surface is strong enough to support the weight of the enclosure and its contents. Check the enclosure's nameplate or datasheet for any specific environmental or location restrictions.

  2. Prepare the Enclosure

If necessary, drill mounting holes in the enclosure back panel according to the selected mounting method (e.g., wall mount, pole mount). Install any required conduit hubs or sealing fittings. Ensure all unused openings are properly sealed.

  3. Mount the Enclosure

Securely mount the SW2MGLWH enclosure to the chosen surface using appropriate mounting hardware. Use a level to ensure the enclosure is installed vertically or horizontally as required. Verify that the enclosure is firmly attached and stable.

  4. Install Internal Components (if applicable)

If the enclosure is to house internal components such as back panels, mounting plates, or sub-assemblies, install them now according to their specific instructions. Ensure all components are properly secured and aligned.

  5. Wire the Enclosure

Route external power and control wiring into the enclosure through the appropriate conduit or cable entries. Connect the wiring to the internal terminals or devices as per the wiring diagram. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated. Install grounding connections to the enclosure and any internal metallic components. Refer to the nameplate or datasheet for specific wiring requirements and conductor sizes. Verify all connections with a multimeter before energizing.

  6. Final Inspection and Sealing

Perform a final inspection of all installed components and wiring. Ensure all covers, doors, and conduit entries are properly sealed to maintain the enclosure's environmental rating (e.g., NEMA or IP rating). Close and secure the enclosure door.
