How to Install and Configure nVent SPECTRACOOL S16 Slim Fit Air Conditioner
This guide provides instructions for safely receiving, mounting, wiring, and performing initial configuration of the nVent SPECTRACOOL S16 Slim Fit Air Conditioner.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Drill, Saw, Screwdriver, Measuring Tape, Level, Wire Strippers, Multimeter, Torque Wrench
Supplies needed:
Mounting hardware (screws, washers, nuts), Copper conductors, Wire connectors
- Inspect for Shipping Damage
Upon receiving the air conditioner, carefully inspect it for any concealed damage such as dents, scratches, loose assemblies, or evidence of oil. Note any damage on the freight bill and report it to the delivering carrier within 15 days. Retain the carton and packing materials for inspection.
- Ensure Proper Orientation Before Operation
If the air conditioner has been in a horizontal position, place it in an upright, vertical, or mounting position for a minimum of five (5) minutes before operating. Do not attempt to operate the unit while it is horizontal or on its side, back, or front, as this will cause permanent damage to the refrigeration compressor and void the warranty.
- Test Functionality and Connect Power Supply
Before mounting the air conditioner to the enclosure, test it for functionality. Refer to the nameplate for proper electrical current requirements. Wire the unit to a properly grounded power supply using copper conductors only. Ensure power supply wiring is restrained after field installation to prevent contact with internal fans. The minimum circuit ampacity must be at least 125% of the amperage shown on the unit nameplate. Fuse the electrical circuit with a slow blow or HACR rated circuit breaker, using a higher ampere rated breaker or time-delay fuse closest to the nominal ampere rating.
- Prepare Enclosure for Mounting
Based on your chosen mounting method (Surface, Partial Recess, or Full Recess), refer to the 'S16 2000/2500W Cutout Drawing' on page 60 or 'S16 4000W Cutout Drawing' on page 61 of the instruction manual. Use a drill and saw to create the necessary cutout in the enclosure, ensuring precise dimensions for a proper seal and fit.
- Mount the Air Conditioner to the Enclosure
Carefully position the air conditioner into the prepared cutout. Secure the unit to the enclosure using appropriate mounting hardware. Ensure the unit is level and firmly attached to maintain proper sealing and operation. Use a torque wrench to tighten fasteners to the manufacturer's specifications if provided.
- Power On and Check Controller Status
After mounting and wiring, apply power to the air conditioner. The controller will energize, and the display will show the current temperature and operating status. Verify that the controller powers on correctly and displays no immediate error codes. Refer to the 'Controller Status Indication' section for interpreting display icons.
- Configure Basic Controller Settings
To view or change program settings, press and hold the 'SET' button for 3 seconds to enter the programming menu. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to navigate parameters and 'SET' to select. Adjust parameters such as temperature setpoints (e.g., 'St' for cooling setpoint) as needed, referring to 'Table 1: Heat/Cool Operating Parameters' or 'Table 3: Heat/Cool Operating Parameters' for °C or °F controllers respectively. Press 'SET' to confirm changes and 'ESC' to exit.
