How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray System
This guide provides instructions for modifying, joining, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC), Measuring tape
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kit (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), Cable tray supports
- Plan Your Cable Tray Layout
Before cutting or bending, determine the desired path for your cable tray system. Review the cutting patterns provided in the manual for specific bends, elbows, and tees to ensure correct modifications for your tray size and desired configuration. Measure all required lengths and angles carefully.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precision cuts. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. Start by cutting the top side wires, then proceed to cut the remaining side wires, and finally cut the bottom wires from the underside. Ensure each cut is clean to minimize sharp edges that could snag cables and to help protect against corrosion.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut the wires according to the specific pattern for your tray width as shown in the documentation. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Assemble an Elbow Connection
Cut the side wires from both tray sections according to the cutting pattern for your tray width and desired angle. Align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the joint as shown in the documentation, typically using two QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers for each joint. For adjustable angles, use one splice kit and one splice washer centered over two tray bottom wires.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports should not exceed the length of the tray. Add additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure stability and proper load distribution.
