How to Install and Customize QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, joining, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO cable tray sections to create custom cable management installations for various configurations.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QTPBNWK Splice Kit, QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit (Black), QTPSSW3 Splice Washer, QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer (Black), QTPUS10 10 in. Universal Splice Bar, QTPUS10BLK 10 in. Universal Splice Bar, Black, QTP90TKIT T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar, QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar, Black
- Prepare Cable Tray Sections by Cutting
Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray. This cutter ensures precision cuts, minimizes sharp edges that could snag wires, and helps protect the new cut from corrosion. First, decide which wires must be cut based on your desired configuration (e.g., for bends, elbows, or length adjustments). Starting with the top side wire, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this for all remaining side wires, ensuring a clean cut. Finally, turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end.
- Join Cable Tray Sections
Connect tray sections using Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK) and Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK). For straight connections, bends, elbows, or tees, align the tray sections as required by your design. Fasten the sections together using the three-piece staked bolt, washer, and nut from the Splice Kit, ensuring each splice washer is positioned over two tray bottom wires where applicable. For additional support or specific configurations like tees and elbows, incorporate Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK) or T-Connection/90o Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK) as needed, securing them with Splice Kits and Washers.
- Support the Installed Cable Tray
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers to ensure proper load distribution. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections to provide adequate stability. Ensure that the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray section. Add additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain structural integrity and load-bearing capacity throughout the installation.
