How to Modify and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO cable tray sections to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTPLB12BLK), QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars (as needed), QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bars (as needed), Cable tray supports
- Plan Your Cable Tray Configuration
Determine the required layout, including straight runs, bends, tees, and level changes. Refer to the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for each modification to ensure proper fit and function.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections to Size
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to make precise cuts on the tray wires. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end for all side and bottom wires. Make one clean cut to minimize sharp edges that could snag cables and to help protect against corrosion.
- Form Bends, Tees, or Elbows
For 90-degree bends, cut side and bottom wires as per the pattern, then bend the tray until inside edges meet and secure with Splice Kits and Splice Washers. For large radius bends, remove specific outside and bottom wires, then bend the tray and fasten the inside with hardware. For elbows, 90-degree tees, or Y-junction tees, cut wires from tray sections according to patterns, align at the desired angle, and fasten securely using Splice Kits and Splice Washers. Use Universal Splice Bars for Y-junctions or width reductions as specified.
- Connect Tray Sections
Join straight or modified tray sections using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure all connections are secure and stable to maintain the integrity of the cable pathway.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Place supports for straight sections at approximately 6-foot (1.5m) intervals. Position supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Add additional supports around bends and where the cable tray changes levels to ensure maximum stability and load bearing capacity.
