How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray
This guide provides instructions for modifying, connecting, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create a custom cable management system.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bar, QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar, Cable tray supports
- Plan Cable Tray Layout
Before cutting or bending, review the desired cable tray configuration and identify all necessary cuts and bends. Refer to the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for different tray sizes and bend types (e.g., 90-degree bends, large radius bends, elbows, tees).
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precision cuts. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. First, cut the top side wire, then the remaining side wires, and finally turn the tray over to cut the bottom wires from the underside. Ensure each cut is clean to eliminate grinding or touch-up.
- Form a 90-degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut all the side wires for the width of the cable tray as indicated in the cutting pattern. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet, forming the 90-degree angle.
- Secure Tray Connections and Bends
Fasten connected tray sections, including bends, elbows, and tees, using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure splice washers are correctly positioned over two tray bottom wires where applicable. For additional support, use QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars or QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection/90-degree Splice Bars as needed.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install supports for straight sections at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability.
