How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray System
This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, joining, and supporting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create a custom cable management system.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
QTPBC Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray sections, QTPBNWK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3 Splice Washer, QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bar, QTP90TKIT T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar, Cable Tray Supports
- Plan the Cable Tray Layout and Mark Cuts
Determine the desired cable tray configuration, including straight runs, bends, elbows, and tees. Review the specific cutting patterns for your tray size and desired modifications. Mark the wires that need to be cut on the cable tray sections according to the chosen pattern.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. Start with the top side wire, positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Cut all remaining side wires, ensuring the jaws rest on the cradle wire and cuts are angled away from the new end. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, following the same procedure. Make one clean cut for each wire to eliminate the need for grinding or touch-up.
- Form Bends and Joins
For 90-degree bends, after cutting, bend the tray on the uncut side until the inside edges meet, then secure with QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For large radius bends, remove outside and bottom wires as per the pattern, then pull ends together and fasten. For elbows, 90-degree tees, or Y-junctions, cut both tray sections, align them at the desired angle, and fasten using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For width reduction, cut wires, then connect with QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bars and fasteners. For changing levels, remove side wire sections and smoothly bend the tray.
- Connect Tray Sections with Splice Bars
For added support and stability when connecting tray sections, utilize QTPUS10 Universal Splice Bars or QTP90TKIT T-Connection/90-degree Splice Bars. Fasten these splice bars to the sides of the tray using QTPSSW3 Splice Washers and QTPBNWK Splice Kits. Universal bars can be cut to fit and bent for tees and elbows.
- Support the Installed Cable Tray System
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Verify that the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Add additional supports as necessary around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and load capacity.
