- Plan Your Cable Tray Configuration
Before making any cuts, plan your entire cable tray layout. Determine the required straight sections, bends (e.g., 90-degree, large radius), and junctions (e.g., elbows, tees). Refer to the manual's cutting patterns for your specific tray size and desired modification, noting the wires marked in red that must be removed.
- Cut Cable Tray Wires Precisely
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the cable tray wires. Begin with the top side wire, positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and making the cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires, ensuring each cut is clean. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, always resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. This specialized cutter minimizes sharp edges and helps protect the new cut from corrosion.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend (If Required)
To create a 90-degree bend, cut all side wires at the designated bend location for your tray width, following the specific cutting patterns. Turn the tray onto its uncut side and smoothly bend the tray upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure this bend by fastening it with QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Join Cable Tray Sections Securely
Align the cable tray sections as needed for straight runs, bends, or junctions. Use QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers to bolt the sections together. For enhanced support and stability, especially when connecting tray sides or forming complex junctions, incorporate Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK) or T-Connection/90-degree Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK) as appropriate for your configuration.
