How to Install and Customize QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections (e.g., QTPRWB12BLK), Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)
- Plan Your Cuts
Determine the required cuts for your desired cable tray configuration, such as bends, elbows, or junctions. Review the cutting patterns provided in the manual for your specific tray size and modification type. Note that red areas on the drawings indicate wires to be removed.
- Perform Precision Cuts
Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. Start by positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire of the top side wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires, ensuring clean cuts. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut for each wire to avoid grinding or touch-up, which also helps protect the new cut from corrosion.
- Form and Secure a 90-Degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut all the side wires and then the bottom wires according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend the tray upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Join Sections to Form an Elbow
Cut the side wires from each tray section according to the cutting pattern for your tray width to prepare for an elbow. Align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the tray sections together using two QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and the QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers for each joint. For an adjustable angle, use one Splice Kit and one Splice Washer, centered, ensuring each splice washer covers two tray bottom wires.
