How to Install and Configure QTPLB8BLK QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, forming, connecting, and supporting QTPLB8BLK QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create custom cable management pathways, including various bends, elbows, and tees.
Estimated time: 1h 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter
Supplies needed:
QTPLB8BLK QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray straight sections, Splice Kit (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90° Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK), Cable tray supports
- Plan Your Cable Tray Layout
Before cutting or assembling, determine the desired path for your cable tray, including straight sections, bends (90°, large radius), elbows, and tees (90°, Y-junction). Review the specific cutting patterns for each configuration based on your tray size and desired outcome.
- Cut and Form Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to make precise cuts. For straight cuts, position the jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end, ensuring one clean cut to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion. For bends, elbows, and tees, follow the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual, removing the indicated wires. After cutting, bend the tray sections to the desired shape as instructed for 90° bends, large radius bends, or level changes.
- Connect Cable Tray Sections
Join the prepared cable tray sections using Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK) and Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK). For 90° bends, secure the bend with splice kits and washers. For elbows, align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle and fasten with two splice kits and washers per joint. For 90° tees, use the T-connection splice bar with splice kits and washers. For Y-junctions or width reductions, use Universal Splice Bars and splice kits/washers as specified. Ensure all connections are secure.
- Support the Cable Tray
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Ensure the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and where the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and prevent sagging.
