How to Customize and Assemble QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Systems
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for customizing and assembling QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections. Learn to cut, bend, and connect sections to create a robust cable management system.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC)
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kit (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)
- Plan Cable Tray Layout
Before cutting or assembling, determine the required cable tray configuration, including straight sections, bends, and junctions. Review the appropriate cutting patterns for your tray size and desired modifications.
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. First, decide which wires to cut based on your design. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut the top side wire at an angle away from the new end. Repeat for remaining side wires, then turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, ensuring clean cuts.
- Customize Tray Sections with Bends and Junctions
Based on your planned layout, form necessary bends, elbows, or tees. For 90-degree bends, cut specific wires and bend the tray, then secure with Splice Kits and Splice Washers. For elbows or tees, cut wires from relevant tray sections and connect them using Splice Kits, Splice Washers, and appropriate Splice Bars (Universal or T-Connection) to achieve the desired angle and configuration.
- Join Cable Tray Sections
Connect straight or modified tray sections together using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure all connections are secure and provide continuous support for the cables.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install straight section supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. Ensure the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and where the cable tray level changes to maintain stability.
