How to Install and Configure QTPCB4BLK QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray
This guide provides instructions for planning, cutting, assembling, and supporting QTPCB4BLK QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create a custom cable management system for various applications.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter, Wrench
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10 or QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT or QTP90TKITBLK), Cable tray supports
- Plan Your Cable Tray Configuration
Determine the optimal path for your cables, considering all turns, changes in level, and obstacles. Select the appropriate QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections and necessary connection components such as splice kits, splice washers, and splice bars. Refer to the "QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Fill Table" to ensure the chosen tray size can accommodate your cable load according to NEC 392.9 (B) guidelines.
- Cut and Shape Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to precisely cut QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections. When creating bends, elbows, or tees, consult the cutting patterns provided in the manual for your specific tray width and desired shape. Always position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion. Make a single, clean cut to avoid the need for grinding or touch-up.
- Assemble and Secure Cable Tray Connections
Join straight tray sections and form custom configurations like bends, elbows, and tees. For 90-degree bends, cut the specified wires, smoothly bend the tray, and secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For elbows and tees, align the cut tray sections at the desired angle and fasten them together with the appropriate splice kits, splice washers, and splice bars (e.g., QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars or QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection Splice Bars). Ensure all connections are tight and provide structural stability.
- Install Supports and Mount the Cable Tray
Position and install appropriate cable tray supports along the planned route. For straight sections, install supports at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers, ensuring a support is placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice. Do not exceed the length of the tray for the span between supports. Provide additional supports around all bends, elbows, tees, and wherever the cable tray changes levels to ensure the entire system is securely mounted and can safely bear the cable load.
