How to Connect QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray Sections Using the QTPBNWK Splice Kit
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for connecting QUICK TRAY PRO cable tray sections, including straight runs, bends, elbows, and tees, using the QTPBNWK Splice Kit and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter (QTPBC), Wrench or Socket Set
Supplies needed:
QTPBNWK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3 Splice Washer, QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray sections, Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10) or T-Connection Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT) as needed
- Prepare Cable Tray Sections for Connection
Determine the required configuration (e.g., straight run, 90-degree bend, elbow, tee). Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray wires according to the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for your desired connection. Always rest the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion. Exercise caution to avoid sharp edges.
- Align Cable Tray Sections
Position the prepared cable tray sections to form the desired connection. For bends, smoothly bend the tray until the inside edges meet. For elbows and tees, align the cut wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Ensure all sections are properly oriented and ready for fastening.
- Secure Connection with Splice Kits and Washers
Fasten the aligned tray sections using the QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For most connections (e.g., 90-degree bends, elbows, 90-degree tees), use two QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers per joint, as indicated for the tray width. For adjustable elbows, use one QTPBNWK Splice Kit and one QTPSSW3 Splice Washer, centered over two tray bottom wires. For Y-junction tees, connect side wires and then use QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers, with the quantity varying based on tray width (one for 4-6 inch, two for 8-12 inch, three for 16 inch and wider trays). Tighten all bolts securely.
