How to Install and Modify QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X8 Cable Tray

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, and connecting sections of QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X8 cable tray to create custom installations. It covers forming 90-degree bends and preparing sections for connection.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter (QTPBC)

Supplies needed:

QUICK TRAY PRO™ QTP4X8 Cable Tray sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK or QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3 or QTPSSW3BLK)

  1. Prepare to Cut Cable Tray Sections

Before cutting, always review the specific cutting pattern for your QTP4X8 tray size and the desired modification (e.g., bend, tee). Identify and mark the wires that must be removed, typically indicated by red areas in diagrams. Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter for precision cuts and to minimize sharp edges that could snag cables, as this tool also helps protect the cut from corrosion.

  2. Execute Precision Cuts on Tray Wires

Begin by cutting the top side wire. Position the bolt cutter jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Repeat this process for all remaining side wires, ensuring each cut is clean to avoid grinding or touch-up. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end.

  3. Form a 90-Degree Bend in the Tray

At the desired bend location, cut all side wires according to the specific pattern for your QTP4X8 tray width. Turn the tray onto its uncut side and smoothly bend it upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend by fastening it with QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
