- Cut Cable Tray Sections Using the Bolt Cutter
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) to make precise cuts. For side wires, position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. For bottom wires, turn the tray over, rest the jaws on the cradle wire, and cut at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up, which helps minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion.
- Form and Secure 90-Degree Bends
To create a 90-degree bend, first cut all side wires at the desired bend location according to the specific tray width pattern. Turn the tray onto its uncut side and smoothly bend it up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend by fastening with QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Join Cable Tray Sections
Connect straight tray sections or modified bends/tees using QTPBNWK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3 Splice Washers. For specific configurations like elbows or 90-degree tees, follow the detailed cutting patterns for each tray section. Align the wires of the sections at the desired angle and fasten them securely using the appropriate splice kits and washers. For 90-degree tees, utilize the QTP90TKIT T-Connection Splice Bar.

Install supports for the cable tray system. For straight sections, place supports typically at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and the span between supports should not exceed the length of the tray.
