Overview

The nVent SpectraCool Narrow Hazardous Location AC (SKU: NHZ360646G500) provides essential climate control for environments where explosive atmospheres may be present. Engineered specifically for hazardous locations, this unit is not a modified light industrial air conditioner. It features a narrow design, accommodating 12-inch (300-mm) deep cabinets, and a brushed SS316L stainless steel enclosure for superior corrosion resistance, ideal for offshore applications. The SpectraCool unit delivers 6000 BTU/hr cooling capacity and operates on 460 VAC, 3-phase power. It eliminates the need for a purge and pressurized system, simplifying installation and maintenance. The unit includes dust-resistant coils for filterless operation in many environments, with a cleanable, reusable aluminum mesh filter for protection in dusty conditions. Digital temperature control ensures precise climate management. Mounting hardware, gaskets, and a user manual are included, and every unit is functionally tested before shipping. Specifications include R134a refrigerant and an outdoor operating temperature range from -40 F/-40 C to 131 F/55 C.

How to Install the NHZ360646G500 Air Conditioner

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the NHZ360646G500 air conditioner in a hazardous location enclosure.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wrench, Ratchet driver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Mounting gasket kit, Electrical wire, Fuses or HACR circuit breaker

  1. Inspect the air conditioner

Check for any visible damage and verify functionality before installation. Ensure the unit is upright for at least five minutes if it has been horizontal.

  2. Prepare the installation site

Maintain a six-inch clearance on at least one side and twenty inches from the front for cover removal. Use the cutout template to prepare the enclosure.

  3. Mount the air conditioner

Secure the air conditioner to the enclosure using the provided mounting screws, ensuring not to damage the mounting gasket. Start bolts by hand to avoid cross-threading.

  4. Wire the unit

Refer to the nameplate for electrical requirements and connect the unit to a properly grounded power supply using copper conductors. Ensure the circuit is fused with a slow blow or HACR circuit breaker.

  5. Adjust the controller settings

Set the controller to the desired cabinet temperature. Refer to the manual for specific instructions on adjusting the program settings.
