Overview

The nVent SpectraCool Narrow Indoor/Outdoor Air Conditioner with Heat (SKU: N280416G151) delivers 4000 BTU of cooling and integrated heating in a compact, 12-inch (300-mm) deep footprint. Designed for space-constrained installations, this unit fits within low-depth floor-mount and wall-mount enclosures, making it ideal for telecommunications shelters, control panels, and industrial automation systems. The brushed SS304 stainless steel housing provides corrosion resistance for outdoor and harsh environment applications, with an operating temperature range from -40°F to 131°F (-40°C to 55°C). A cleanable aluminum mesh filter protects coils for maximum cooling performance, while a dust-resistant condenser coil allows filterless operation in most applications. The unit includes a reliable mechanical thermostat and operates on a 115V power supply. For remote monitoring, select units offer Remote Access Control (RAC) to manage temperature and performance across networks.
  • Narrow design accommodates 12-inch (300-mm) deep cabinets
  • Advanced Corrosion Protection Level 1 (ACP L1) Protection Includes: Protective coatings only applied to copper tubing and coils on the condenser (exterior facing) side as well as thermostat coatings
  • Attractive industrial design with minimal use of visible fasteners
  • Advanced Corrosion Protection Level 2 (ACP L2) Protection Includes: Everything that was coated in ACP L1, plus protective coatings applied to the evaporator (interior facing) side and an additional wrap around the thermostat
  • Cleanable, reusable aluminum mesh filter protects coils for maximum cooling performance
  • Outdoor model operating temperature range from -40 F/-40 C to 131 F/55 C (125 F/52 C on N28 Series)
  • Reliable mechanical thermostat on enclosure side of the unit; indoor air conditioner models include digital display on ambient side
  • Energy efficient rotary compressor on N36 and N43 models
  • Dust-resistant condenser coil allows the unit to be run filterless in most applications
  • Galvanized sheet-metal cover for rugged factory and outdoor environments

How to Install the N280416G151 Air Conditioner

Installation guide for mounting and wiring the N280416G151 air conditioner. Ensure the unit is functioning correctly before installation.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wrench, Ratchet driver

Supplies needed:

Mounting gasket kit, Copper conductors

  1. Inspect and Test Functionality

Inspect the air conditioner for any damage. Test its functionality before mounting. Ensure the unit has been in an upright position for at least five minutes if it was transported horizontally. Refer to the nameplate for electrical requirements and wire to a properly grounded power supply using copper conductors. The circuit should be fused with a slow blow or HACR circuit breaker. Allow the evaporator blower to start immediately and run the unit with the compressor for 5-10 minutes. Verify condenser air temperatures increase.

  2. Mount the Air Conditioner

Install the provided mounting gasket kit to the air conditioner. Mount the air conditioner onto the enclosure, being careful not to damage the gasket. Avoid dragging the unit on the enclosure to maintain a watertight seal. Start mounting bolts by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten with a wrench or ratchet driver.

  3. Wire the Unit

Refer to the nameplate for specific electrical requirements. Wire the unit to a properly grounded power supply using copper conductors. Ensure the electrical circuit is fused with a slow blow or HACR circuit breaker. If your unit requires a remote thermostat, wire its outputs to the appropriate terminals on the 24 VAC terminal strip according to the correct wiring diagram.

  4. Set Thermostat

Set the thermostat to the required cabinet temperature. Refer to the 'Sequence of Operation' on page 4 for thermostat adjustment and operation details. Do not set the thermostat below 70 F for normal operation to prevent coil freeze-ups and potential unit damage.
