Overview

The nVent KBAU4NBNCLE is an ATEX and IECEx certified brass cable gland designed for armored cable entry into hazardous locations. It provides strain relief, environmental sealing, and explosion protection for Ex d/e/tb applications. Constructed from nickel-plated brass with a chloroprene seal, it operates reliably between -40°C and 100°C. This gland is suitable for Zone 1, 2, 21, and 22 hazardous areas, including gas group IIC and dust group IIIC. It features a single-unit design with three removable sealing levels, accommodating armored cables with outer diameters from 10.6mm to 12.6mm. The NPT 1 1/4" thread ensures compatibility with various enclosures. Included with the gland are a locknut and an earth tag for simplified installation and grounding. It offers IP66/68 ingress protection. Manufactured in the USA, the KBAU4NBNCLE is ideal for oil & gas, chemical processing, pharmaceutical, and other industries where explosive atmospheres are a concern.
  • Allow for double sealing of cable and jacket with upper and lower seals
  • The swivel retainer and grounding cone are adhered to the gland body by the o-rings to prevent any loose parts; to remove, simply pull these components slightly to detach
  • All metric thread cable glands are packaged as kits and includes a chloroprene washer, locknut and earthtag
  • All NPT thread cable glands are packaged as kits. Each kit includes a locknut and earthtag (except for NPT 3/8-in. cable glands which do not include locknut and earthtag)
  • Available in Metric (M) and NPT (N) thread type
  • Operating temperature from -40 C to 100 C with chloroprene seal and -60 C to 130 C with silicon seal
  • Manufactured in the USA by nVent, a leader in hazardous location solutions

How to Install the KBAU4NBNCLE Cable Gland

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the KBAU4NBNCLE cable gland, ensuring proper mounting and wiring for optimal performance.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Cable connectors, Neoprene sealing rings

  1. Prepare the installation area

Ensure the installation area is clean and free of debris. Verify that the temperature range is suitable for the KBAU4NBNCLE cable gland, which operates between -40°C to +100°C with neoprene sealing.

  2. Mount the cable gland

Secure the KBAU4NBNCLE cable gland to the designated enclosure using the provided mounting screws. Ensure it is tightly fastened to prevent any movement.

  3. Connect the cables

Strip the ends of the cables and insert them into the cable gland. Use appropriate cable connectors to secure the connections, ensuring that the cables are properly seated and insulated.

  4. Seal the connections

Install the neoprene sealing rings around the cable entry points to ensure a watertight seal. Tighten the gland to compress the sealing rings adequately.

  5. Test the installation

Use a multimeter to check the continuity and insulation resistance of the connected cables. Ensure there are no short circuits or grounding issues before powering up the system.
