This guide details the process of installing the IW3000 Infrared Window onto a flat surface of a type 4/12 enclosure. Comply with local and national safety requirements when working in hazardous locations to prevent damage or injury.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Hydraulic punch or hole saw (73-74 mm), Drill, Conedrill, Pozidrive screwdriver, Center punch, 6 mm (1/4 in.) drill bit, 3.6 mm (9/64 in.) drill bit
Supplies needed:
Fixing screws (4), Drilling template, Degreaser
- Unpack and Verify Contents
Carefully unpack the IW3000 unit and verify that all contents are present: the IW3000 unit, four fixing screws, and the drilling template.
- Position and Affix Drilling Template
Confirm the desired position for the IW3000 unit on a flat surface of a type 4/12 enclosure. Peel off the backing from the drilling template and firmly stick it to the panel, aligning with the template reference points.
- Mark Holes with Center Punch
Using a center punch, accurately mark the positions for the fixing holes and the central hole as indicated on the drilling template.
- Drill the Center Pilot Hole
Using a 6 mm (1/4 in.) twist drill, carefully drill out the marked center hole (B).
- Drill the Fixing Holes
Using a 3.6 mm (9/64 in.) twist drill, drill out all the marked fixing holes.
- Enlarge the Center Hole
Choose one of the following methods to enlarge the center hole: If using a hole saw, use the 6 mm (1/4 in.) pilot hole as a guide to enlarge the center hole to 73-74 mm (2-7/8 in.). If using a hydraulic hole punch, refer to its manual and follow all safety procedures to enlarge the center hole.
- Deburr Holes and Degrease Panel
After enlarging the center hole, de-burr all drilled holes to remove any sharp edges. Remove any metal shavings and the self-adhesive drilling template. Thoroughly degrease the front panel surface where the window will be mounted.
- Mount and Secure the Infrared Window
Align the fixing holes on the IW3000 Infrared Window with the drilled holes on the panel and firmly press the window into place. Using a Pozidrive screwdriver and three of the four supplied countersunk screws, gradually fix the window to the panel. Advance each fixing until a torque setting between 0.5 – 1 lbf.ft (0.68 – 1.36 N.m) is achieved, ensuring the unit is secure. To maintain the enclosure type rating, ensure the viewport cover is secured in place.
