Overview

The nVent EXAS050SS6 is a specialized M20 hazardous location hole seal engineered for increased safety (Ex e) enclosures in Zone 1 or 2 classified areas. Constructed from durable Type 316 stainless steel with a brushed finish, this seal provides superior corrosion resistance, making it ideal for harsh industrial environments. Its integrated silicone rubber gasket ensures a dust, oil, and watertight seal, maintaining IP66/IP67 protection. The EXAS050SS6 supports a wide operating temperature range from -55°C to 180°C (-67°F to 356°F). This self-centering hole seal simplifies installation by effectively sealing pushbutton holes, conduit openings, and knockout openings in metallic, non-painted enclosures, thus preserving enclosure integrity. Certified for ATEX and IECEx, it meets stringent safety standards and is a reliable choice for the petroleum, chemical, and other demanding industries requiring robust environmental protection for electrical equipment. SKU: EXAS050SS6. Benefits include superior corrosion resistance with Type 316 stainless steel, secure sealing with a silicone gasket, and wide applicability for hole sizes up to 4 inches and enclosure wall thicknesses up to 0.31 inches. Certifications include Zone 1 or 2, IECEx and ATEX approvals (Ex e IIC Gb, Ex tb IIIC Db IP 66), and UL 508A Component Recognition (Type 3R, 4, 4X, 12, 13).

How to Install the EXAS050SS6 Hole Seal

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the EXAS050SS6 Hole Seal on a metallic enclosure to maintain an IP66 rating.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Hex driver or wrench, Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Gasket, Outer plate, Retainer plate, Hex nut

  1. Check hole size

Verify the hole size in the enclosure according to the provided chart. Clean and de-burr the hole, ensuring the edge is at least 12mm from the edge of the enclosure gland plate.

  2. Mount the gasket

Place the gasket onto the outer plate (item 1) ensuring it is properly aligned for sealing.

  3. Fit the outer plate

Insert the outer plate and gasket into the cable entry from the outside surface of the enclosure. Ensure the gasket is properly aligned to seal the enclosure before proceeding.

  4. Secure the retainer plate

Mount the retainer plate (item 3) onto the stud and secure it with the hex nut (item 4) using a 3/8 in. hex driver or wrench. Torque to 18 in*lb (2 N*m) without over-tightening.

  5. Verify installation

Ensure that the product label on the retainer plate is visible from the inside of the enclosure, confirming proper installation.
