How to Install the I-T-E MAX-FLEX Mechanism

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the I-T-E MAX-FLEX mechanism in Hoffman enclosures, ensuring proper assembly and adjustment for safe operation.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Drill, Wrench

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Lockwashers, Flat washers, Hex nuts, Shoulder collar, Slide arm, Door catch

  1. Assemble the operating handle

Attach the I-T-E operating handle and cable frame assembly to the enclosure flange opening. Omit the cap screw and lockwasher that fits into the bottom hole of the I-T-E operating handle.

  2. Install the slide arm

Place the slide arm over the interlock lever part of the I-T-E operating handle. Insert the smaller diameter end of the shoulder collar through the oval slot in the slide arm, then install the long cap screw with lockwasher through the shoulder collar into the bottom mounting hole of the I-T-E operating handle and tighten.

  3. Connect the slide arm to the lock release mechanism

Attach the bottom of the slide arm to the offset arm of the lock release mechanism using two flat washers, two lockwashers, and two hex nuts. Do not tighten until adjustments are made.

  4. Adjust the slide arm length

Ensure the safety lock in the I-T-E operating handle releases just before the master door is fully latched. Adjust the slide arm length accordingly.

  5. Install the door catch

Attach the door catch to the tapped spacer on the door using the bottom set of mounting holes with screws and lockwashers. Adjust the door catch to prevent the door from opening when the I-T-E operating handle is in the 'ON' position.

  6. Drill and tap holes in the panel

Drill and tap holes in the panel as specified in the installation diagram. Ensure the disconnect can be located within reach of the cable length being used.

  7. Install the panel

Mount the panel on the collar studs in the enclosure securely.

  8. Mount the disconnect switch

Install the disconnect switch or circuit breaker and operating mechanism on the panel following the I-T-E instructions and parts.
