How to Install the Panduit SP6X88SD-C Modular Plug
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Panduit SP6X88SD-C Modular Plug using T568B or T568A wiring schemes.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Wire stripping tool, Wire snipping tool, Plug assembly tool (MPT5-8AS)
Supplies needed:
Cable (Category 6A UTP), Boot, Strain relief collar, Load bar, Divider
- Prepare the cable
Thread the boot onto the cable first. Remove 2.0 inches of the outer jacket from the cable end using a wire stripping tool.
- Fan the twisted pairs
Fan the twisted pairs into respective quadrants, ensuring the brown pair is opposite the orange pair for T568B or the brown pair is opposite the green pair for T568A.
- Insert the divider
Align the 'V' channel of the divider with the appropriate color pair and insert the divider posts into the cable. If the cable has an internal spline, insert the divider posts into the brown and orange or brown and green quadrants of the spline.
- Arrange conductors
Arrange the conductors according to the T568B or T568A wiring scheme while minimizing untwist. Seat the conductors into the proper divider slots while holding the divider near the end of the cable jacket.
- Trim conductors
Trim the conductors at an angle approximately 1.00 inch from the leading edge of the divider to ensure proper seating in the load bar.
- Insert the load bar
Orient the load bar with contact slots facing downward. Guide the conductors into the load bar holes while holding the conductors in the divider, then slide the load bar towards the divider until flush.
- Secure the strain relief collar
Wrap the foldable strain relief collar around the cable until the latch engages. Ensure the front tips of the strain relief collar are flush with the divider.
- Complete plug termination
Align pin #1 of the cable sub-assembly with pin #1 of the plug housing. Squeeze the collar arms as the sub-assembly is inserted into the plug housing until the collar locking tabs clear the plug housing pocket.
- Final assembly check
Slide the boot forward and fully seat it onto the strain relief collar. Use the MPT5-8AS tool to complete the plug termination and visually check the assembly for correctness.
