Overview

The Panduit SCL300-X is a long barrel copper butt splice engineered for 300 kcmil stranded copper conductors. This splice is designed to maximize crimps, delivering superior wire pull-out strength and reliable electrical performance. Constructed from tin-plated copper, it offers enhanced corrosion resistance. Internal wire stops are integrated to prevent conductor over-insertion, ensuring proper termination. The barrel is color-coded and marked with Panduit and specified competitor die index numbers, facilitating accurate tool selection for optimal crimping. The SCL300-X is UL Listed and CSA Certified to 35 kV, with a temperature rating of 90°C when crimped using specified tools. It also meets NEBS Level 3 requirements as tested by Telcordia. For wide wire range-taking capability, it is UL Listed and CSA Certified when used with Panduit Uni-Die™ Dieless Crimping Tools. This splice is manufactured in the USA.

How to Install Copper Compression Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing copper compression connectors, ensuring a secure and reliable electrical connection.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Crimping tool, Heat gun or propane torch

Supplies needed:

Copper compression connectors, Heat shrink tubing

  1. Select the correct connector

Choose a connector that matches the wire size and material. Ensure you do not use copper connectors on aluminum wire.

  2. Strip the wire

Use wire strippers to remove insulation from the wire to the length specified in the tool chart. Avoid nicking or damaging the conductor strands.

  3. Insert and crimp the connector

Insert the stripped wire into the connector until it reaches the stop. Use a crimping tool to crimp the connector, following the color bands or knurl markings as a guide for even spacing.

  4. Inspect the crimp

Check the crimped connector for sharp edges, flash, or burrs and remove any imperfections to ensure a safe connection.

  5. Prepare heat shrink tubing

Cut the heat shrink tubing to a length that allows for adequate insulation coverage, ensuring at least 1.5 inches of overlap on the wire insulation.

  6. Apply heat shrink

Position the heat shrink tubing over the crimped connector and apply heat using a heat gun or propane torch, moving from the crimped portion toward the insulated wire until the adhesive flows at the ends.
