Overview

The Panduit RSC4-6-L In-line Reducing Splice (SKU: RSC4-6-L) is engineered for reliable electrical connections between #4 AWG and #6 AWG conductors. Constructed from high-strength extruded aluminum alloy, this splice offers premium electrical and mechanical performance. It features clear PVC insulation, eliminating the need for taping and allowing for visual inspection of complete conductor insertion. Each port is pre-filled with oxide inhibiting joint compound to seal out air and moisture, preventing surface oxidation. This dual-rated connector is suitable for both copper and aluminum conductors, minimizing inventory requirements due to its wide wire range-taking capability. It is UL Listed and CSA Certified for use up to 600V and has a UL temperature rating of 90°C. The splice utilizes a plated steel or aluminum set screw for high-strength, durable electrical contact. Ideal for power distribution systems, control panels, and industrial machinery, the RSC4-6-L ensures secure and long-lasting connections in demanding electrical applications.

How to Install the In-Line Reducing Splice Connector

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing an In-Line Reducing Splice Connector, ensuring secure and reliable electrical connections.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Crimping tool, Heat tool (Panduit Model No. HSG-115V-650 recommended)

Supplies needed:

In-Line Reducing Splice Connector, Heat shrink tubing, Copper conductors

  1. Prepare the conductors

Strip the insulation from the larger conductor to the length specified in the tool chart. Ensure not to nick or damage the conductor strands.

  2. Insert conductors into the connector

Slide the heat shrink over the smaller conductor. Insert both conductors fully into the splice connector, ensuring that the strands are visible through the inspection holes.

  3. Crimp the connector

Using the appropriate crimping tool, match the color code and die index number on the connector to the crimp dies. Make the required number of crimps in the designated zones, starting from the inspection holes and moving towards the conductor entry.

  4. Apply heat shrink

Slide the smaller heat shrink over the splice connector and shrink it using the heat tool, moving from the center towards the ends. Repeat with the larger heat shrink, ensuring it overlaps the smaller one by approximately 1/4 inch.

  5. Inspect the connection

Check the heat shrink for any holes or voids and ensure that the die index numbers on the crimps are visible through the heat shrink.
