How to Install and Configure a Panduit G6 PDU

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the physical installation, grounding, and initial configuration of a Panduit G6 Power Distribution Unit (PDU) in a datacenter rack.

Estimated time: null

Tools needed:

Phillips screwdriver, Torx screwdriver

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Tie wraps, Ground bonding cable

  1. Install PDU Mounting Hardware

Based on your desired PDU orientation (outlets facing center, back, or front of the rack), align and install the mounting buttons into the appropriate screw holes on the PDU. Use a Phillips or Torx screwdriver as needed to secure the buttons.

  2. Mount the PDU in the Rack

Carefully insert the installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the PDU mounting bracket within the datacenter rack. Ensure the PDU is securely seated and stable.

  3. Attach the Input Power Cord (for Universal Input PDUs)

For Universal Input PDUs, open the input cord connector latches on the PDU. Insert the appropriate input cord plug firmly into the connector, then close the latches to lock the cord in place.

  4. Ground the PDU

Connect a ground bonding cable to the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis. Securely bond the PDU to a grounding strip or bus bar in the rack, or to a known earthed reference terminal in the building. Ensure a reliable grounded connection to reduce the risk of electric shock.

  5. Connect the PDU to a Power Source

Before connecting, ensure the feed circuit breaker for the power source is OFF and all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated branch circuit, referring to the PDU label for input ratings. Once connected, turn the feed circuit breaker ON. WARNING: Do not overload the PDU. The total input current rating of all equipment connected to each output cannot exceed the total output rating marked on the PDU.

  6. Configure Universal Input PDU Input Type (if applicable)

If you have a Universal Input PDU, access the PDU's Web interface (refer to the User Manual for connection instructions). Navigate to the 'System Management' page under settings, then select 'Set Input Cord' under actions. Choose the correct cord type from the dropdown menu, then select 'Save'. The PDU will reset. Selecting an incorrect cord type may lead to inaccurate metering and power rating display.

  7. Secure Power Cords to Outlets (Optional)

For connected IT equipment, plug in the power cords to the PDU outlets. Use the provided tie wraps to secure the cords by sliding an end into the notch next to the outlet and wrapping it around the cord. Secure the tie wrap to prevent accidental disconnects. Alternatively, use optional locking power cords for enhanced security.
